NSW: 147,916 persons appeared in NSW Courts in 2006
Almost 148 thousand people appeared in New South Wales courts last year .. charged
with one or more criminal offences.
The 2006 New South Wales Criminal Courts Statistics report says most either pleaded
guilty .. or were found guilty .. of at least one of the offences.
Overall conviction rates were 70.8 per cent in the Children's Court .. 87.1 per cent
in the Local Court .. and 83.7 per cent in the District and Supreme Courts.
The most common offence heard in the Children's Court was non-aggravated assault ..
the same as in the Local Courts .. along with driving offences.
The most common offences dealt with in the District and Supreme Courts were sex ..
break and enter .. and robbery matters.
